About Us

Uttar Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (UPVHA) is a network of voluntary organization working in the field of health and development in the state since 1985. We are the state chapter of Voluntary Heath Association of India, New Delhi, working on different issues regarding community health.

UPVHA is working for implementation of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act, 2003 (COTPA) in collaboration with Voluntary Heath Association of India, New Delhi in District Lucknow  (covered under NTPC) Shahjahanpur (covered under non NTPC).  This act came into existence in 2 October, 2008 when pictorial health warning imposed on tobacco product. UPVHA is focusing on mainly sections (4) i.e. smoking is prohibited at public places by installing the signage of 60x30 cm size,  Section 6 (a) i.e. disallow the selling of tobacco products to minors. A display board to be put up at the point of sale declaring that “sale of tobacco products to minors is prohibited” and Section 6(b) i.e. “Sale of Tobacco product within the 100 yards of the educational institutions is strictly prohibited”. In case of violation of the law a fine of up to Rs. 200/- only will be taken from them.
