On the occasion of AIDS Day we organized a sensitization programme for students at GIC Nishatganj , Lucknow. The key resource persons were Dr. Ravikant Singh from CSDU, Dental and oral specialist, Mr. Rahul (consultant), Mr. J.P. Sharma (Director UPVHA). Over 72 participants attended the programme including the 15 teachers and other staff members, and got sensitized against the tobacco use. The interactive session was highly useful for those who were habitual of eating gutkha and chewing tobacco.Principal of the school declared the school "Tobacco Free" along with the installation of the signage.

. “A Sensitization Workshop for Educational Institution” was held at Manyavar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management, Vipulkhand, Gomtinagar, Lucknow, on 19th November.Main supporting team member were Dr. Rahat Hadi from Ram Manohar Lohiya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mr. Rahul Dwivedi ,consultant,Dr. Manoj Dixit from MKITM and our Tobacco team members. 15 Teachers, total 40 students and 10 staff members got sensitized against tobacco and became determined to follow the rules of COTPA and to co-operate others in quitting tobacco. Along with this Director of the institution Dr. Manoj Dixit declared his premise “Tobacco Free”.

Sensitization Workshop for teachers on 17th September 2011
A sensitization workshop for teachers was organized at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow on September 17, 2011. The key resource persons present at the programme were Dr. M C Pant, Director of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Science, Ms. Sobha Shukla, Former teacher of Loreto, Jitendra Dwivedi, Consultant, Rahul Dwivedi, Consultant, Gautam Sahgal, Media Representative, and Ms. Saroj Kumari, State Prohibition Officer. The workshop was attended by over fifty two participants. Teachers were sensitized on tobacco burden in India, tobacco & its health hazards focused on Oral & Lungs Cancer, COTPA and social aspect of tobacco. The workshop is ended with a highly interactive session with teachers.

UPVHA organized a Race Against Tobacco with the collaboration of State/District Tobacco Control Cell, State Prohibition Department, Cancer Society, FPAI and NGOs + 200 approx. sports boys + 50 approx. Rickshaw pullers provided by respectively Stadium in charge and PACE. In the morning, a rally was taken out from KD Singh Babu Stadium. It was flagged off by District Magistrate Mr. Anil Kumar Sagar. The DM urged people to avoid tobacco and its products. He said everybody would have to come forward in order to rid India of tobacco. Around 400 people took part in this rally.

A sensitization workshop of Law Enforcers on COTPA has been organized with the collaboration of UPVHA and Anti Tobacco Cell on the occasion of WNTD at CMO Sabhagar Bhawan. A total of forty participants including health dept., education dept., DIOS, BSA, PRI, Media, Information Dept., local NGOs, private hospitals & nursing homes etc got sensitized on tobacco control law.

A media workshop organised on 31st May, 11 at Press Club, Lko on the new pictorial warning public notification and the implement status of Tobacco Control Law in the district. A total of thirty four media persons from leading media houses and eighteen NGO representatives took participate in it.

An orientation program has been conduct in Itaunja Block with the collaboration with Nehru Yuwa Kendra for CDS (Community Development Society). Around 100 CDS took part in it. The objective of this program is to aware the CDS on Tobacco health hazards so that they can further aware the community on the same.

A sensitization workshop on “Tobacco Free Collage” for teachers was organized by UPVH A in collaboration with Swami Shukdevanand Post Graduate Collage, Commers Department, Shahjahanpur on 18th May 2011 at Shukdevanand Post Graduate Collage premises. Dr. Pankaj Bhargav, Director- San Institute of Management was the main chief guest of the workshop along with other eminent guest Dr. K.K Sharma, Lotus Institute of Management, Barelly. Dr. S P Agnotri, Asstt. Professor- SSPG College was the Chairperson of the workshop. A total of thirty six participants including Principal, HOD, teachers and other supporting staff participated in the workshop. Through the time of workshop we distributed a resource kit to all teachers and principal to update them about the activated conducted under COTPA 2003.

Celebration of “World Health Day”

On the occasion of “World Health day”, three street plays followed by candlelight vigil were organised at the three places i.e. KGMU, Railway Station, and GPO Hazratganj by UPVHA in collaboration with State & District Tobacco Control Cell, Coalition members and volunteers. Mr. Praveen WHO Consultant, NGOs partners and Media Persons etc and about thousand of people were sensitized and motivated to quit Tobacco. The street Play was organized by the twelve students of Luck now University Social Works Department. The street play was focused on the impact of tobacco consumption on a whole family and second hand smoke. The event was concluded at GPO Park, Hazaratganj, by Candlelight Vigil in front of Gandhi ji’s statue. More than 100 peoples from different background were the witness of the programme and took oath to quit tobacco and also spread this massage among the community.
While addressing the gathering and media, Dr. Shobhnath, Nodal officer STCC and Director Medical Care and Dr. Ishwar Sharan, Nodal Officer, DTCC, CMS Balrampur Hospital ensured to make Lucknow Smoke Free by the end of October 2011 and they also requested to all to join “Smoke Free Lucknow” campaign to save the life of the tobacco victims. At the end of the programme UPVHA gave a slogan for this campaign i.e. “Sundar Lucknow, Sakshar Lucknow, Smoke Free Lucknow”.
